VTD/Amaril : The future built in !
click image to zoom in The 32-bit VTD/Amaril emulator software was introduced in 1998, and was a great success already from the first day. It replaced the 16-bit VTD/Win emulator which has a proven worldwide history starting in the mid 90's.

Because of the constant evolution of the Windows platforms, the Micro-Matic Research Development Team answered to all needs: the VTD/Amaril software runs smoothly on any Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit), Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 platform.

The use of object technology has led to the creation of a product which is characterized by a high level of modularity. This essential Amaril characteristic is widely exploited by the software's teledistribution functions. Amaril's aesthetics and ergonomics have been designed with particular care. Any modifications made by the various Amaril configuration utilities are dynamic and therefore immediately visualized, which makes the user interface particularly attractive.

In addition, an object-oriented, interactive and dynamic script language, with the most advanced setup utilities, provides a level of personalization which few Windows products are able to achieve.

All menu titles, questions, dialog windows and error messages in the program are by default available in four different languages: English, Dutch, French and German. The modular use of the Amaril objects allows you to even add your own language to the software !

Furthermore, a direct primairy connection based on the RFC1006 protocol and the use of SSL encrypted communication on all TCP/IP based protocols guarantee lasting solutions to meet emulation needs both today and tomorrow in a wide range of environments.

Remaining faithful to its reputation for excellence and based on its invaluable experience in this field, Micro-Matic Research has taken advantage of the generalization, as the standard workstation, of Windows 32-bit platforms to design and develop a product which is proving to be one of the most powerful emulation suites ever !

Architecture based on object approach
The use of Object Technology has led to the creation of a product which is characterized by a high level of modularity. This essential Amaril characteristic is widely exploited by the software's teledistribution functions.

click image to zoom in These techniques have also enabled fundamental Amaril characteristics to be used as Adular bases, the Web-To-Host solution from the MMR Group.

Adular and Amaril form a complete, consistent offer which meets companies' Internet, Intranet and Extranet needs. Modeling, in the form of objects, of different entities manipulated by Amaril (file transfers, automatic connections, interface components such as colors, menus, toolbar, etc.) makes administration much easier and, in particular, allows these entities to be shared among various emulator authorities.

Ergonomic implementation
Amaril's aesthetics and ergonomics have been designed with particular care. In addition, an object-oriented, interactive and dynamic script language, with the most advanced setup utilities, provides a level of personalization which few Windows products are able to achieve.

Any modifications made by the various Amaril configuration utilities are dynamic and therefore immediately visualized, which makes the user interface particularly attractive. MMR's vast experience of emulation products has led to the integration within Amaril of numerous additional features, which together considerably increase user comfort :
  • list of automatic connections
  • automatic statistics on response times
  • simultaneous use of different configuration and personalization modules (colors, menus, toolbar, etc.)

Encryption technology
VTD/Amaril version 8.x supports Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to secure communications through encryption.

click image to zoom in SSL encryption can be used for all protocols based on TCP/IP :
  • VGP over Winsock
  • Telnet
  • TNVIP
  • SID/RFC1006
If your host system doesn't support SSL, you can use an intermediate software called a 'tunnel'. VTD/Amaril connects securely to one side of this tunnel. Free implementations for several operating systems of a software tunnel supporting SSL are available on the internet.

Transporting DSA sessions over a TCP/IP network
From version 8.x onwards, the VTD/Amaril emulator software supports the ISO/DSA protocol over RFC1006.

The RFC1006 protocol allows a direct primary connection to a GCOS system without using a gateway or TNVIP server, as required with secondary connections. It contains a class 0 ISO transport layer, a DSA session layer and a simple, 'dialogless' terminal manager.

By using TCP/IP all the way from the Amaril workstation to the GCOS mainframe, no translation into ISO/DSA has to be done. This makes connecting to the legacy application and transfering files even faster than before !

Centralized distribution
The VTD/Amaril Administration tool allows the network administrator to centrally create and distribute the Amaril configuration for every user in the company.

click image to zoom in No more running around with floppy disks to install and configure the emulator program on each workstation. Now you can install and distribute VTD/Amaril over the Internet or Intranet, with all the quickbuttons, file transfers or color settings already predefined.

Automatic detection and installation of updates is possible without additional user intervention. As soon as the working version changes, or modifications are made to the configuration, the clients will automatically receive an updated set of files in just a few seconds time !

The administrator might permit some users to re-configure their keyboard settings, but block them from changing their network parameters in Amaril. User 'A' might want to have a shortcut on his desktop to launch a specific Amaril session, user 'B' might want to launch two different sessions directly from his Start-up group, and all users in group 'C' might work with French menus and dialog windows. All these options are saved in 'Settings files', 'Packages' and 'Group files'. Contact us for more information or a live demo !

The power of scripts
Amaril has an environment which is entirely dedicated to producing scripts, making it extremely easy to automate functions such as automatic connections, file transfers, printing, data entry sequences, etcetera.

click image to zoom in The Script Editor/Recorder/Debugger/Dialog Editor allows you to create powerful automated functions. It assists you in recording different actions into a script, and in locating and correcting execution errors in your script program. It also allows you to slow or suspend execution of your program so that you can examine program flow and the contents of the variables.

It provides a complete debugging environment, including :
  • breakpoints
  • single step into/over/out of
  • variable viewing and setting
  • a console window for viewing output
