The Virga OnBoard Backup system allows you to use more sessions on a VTD/8 gateway than defined by the VTD/8 license code. The use of these unlicensed sessions is charged, per session, via a credit system using the Virga OnBoard technology.
The number of credited Virga Units depends on the maximum number of sessions used within one hour. If no connections have been made, no Virga Units will be credited.
The Onboard Units can only be loaded on a VTD/8 Optimo board, because this type of gateway cards has the technology to store the units. The gateway requires software version 7.x or higher and an AG or BG license in order to benefit from the Virga Onboard backup system.
The number of OnBoard Units is saved on the Optimo card itself, and no longer on an external VirgaDisk. Therefor, this system offers some important advantages compared to the VirgaDisk : no batteries, no mechanical components, the number of units can be introduced onto the gateway without shipping delay, improved calculation mechanism, no loss of units due to pc or gateway crash, etcetera.
The Virga Backup Voucher is a unique 16 character long hexadecimal code which, when loaded in the VTD/8 gateway, will add a number of Virga Backup Onboard Units to the number that is already saved on the gateway. This voucher cannot be used more than once. It is calculated using the Board ID of the targeted Optimo. Every Voucher is unique for every card, so you cannot use a Voucher on a different card.
The gateway card will check after every 15 minutes if any Units are consumed. If this is the case, a new value is written on the gateway. If the license has zero sessions (e.g. AG0 license) an idle cost of 32 units/hour is charged. If the license has more than zero sessions (e.g. AG2) the idle cost is not charged. One unit remains one session/hour.
The Virga OnBoard backup system can be combined with the Virga Clustering technology for even higher connection availability.
