VTD/8 Gateways : VTD/8 Optimo
Pentium Power
click image to zoom in At Micro-Matic Research we take great pride in our quality and our reputation as a leading world-class manufacturer. So we took our time to carry on tests, tests, tests and yet more tests. Once we were totally satisfied with the compatibility and connectivity testing, for which use was made of our highly sophisticated bench-mark installation, we were able to add this VTD/8 Optimo to the very successful VTD/8 Centro family.

VTD/8 Optimo provides you with a perfect solution for a fast, reliable gateway link to your Bull mainframe with FDDI connectivity. This single gateway handles all your communications between Bull, IBM, Unix and PC network systems at the speed of light.

VTD/8 Optimo has already proven its qualities in tough, real-life situations. Many MMR customers have already decided to take full advantage of this great data communications tool for the provision of up-to-date and future-oriented solutions. This top-of-the-range MMR product comes with the standard quality and highest level of reliability you've rightly come to expect from any first-rate MMR product.
Optical Fibre data transmission
The VTD/8 Optimo brings the speed of light to your data transmission : the FDDI guarantees a 100 MBps transfer rate. The very high-performant, technologically superior and highly reliable FDDI Fiber Optic Link to your Bull mainframe will secure the highest degree of speed and reliability ever witnessed.
Fast Ethernet
In quite a few situations, you'll want to be able to run in both environments, FDDI for ultimate speed within the backbone, and the standard Ethernet for the workgroups. This duality provides you with a very powerful growth path, ready whenever you want to completely move to gain full advantage of the speed of light. Once again, our engineers listened carefully to what our users want, and have thus designed the Optimo in such a way that it can simultaneously deliver 100 MBps FDDI and Full Duplex 100 MBps Fast Ethernet.
The VIRGA concept
With larger networks, you can rely on your new VTD/8 gateway to guarantee uninterrupted processing. Thanks to the integrated Virga software, and its powerful clustered system, all the physical and logistical aspects to bring you additional security and reliability are taken care of: the functions include back-up, self-diagnosis and self-maintenance.
RFC1006, GNSP and DIANE
click image to zoom in VTD/8 boards, running software version 8.xx, connect perfectly to any GNSP system, the GCOS Network Server Processor designed to support TCP/IP as standard. As like the Centro1000 and Centro boards, connections towards DPS7000/XTA DIANE servers are handled by the VTD/8 Optimo using the RFC1006 protocol.
Throughput
This VTD/8 Optimo gateway brings you up to 1000 simultaneously active sessions for terminal emulation with the associated station printer. UFT, XFT as well as FTP are included for your file transfer needs. To the addressing of up to 100 printer queues for Windows NT and Novell Netware, we also added LPD printer protocol offering additional reliability. Even with all of these functions simultaneously active, the 625 TPS throughput guarantees fast response times.
Layout
The VTD/8 Optimo consists of two boards. Both boards have on top a PCI edge connector. A little two-slot printed circuit board interconnects the main board to the FDDI extension board. The full size main board contains the Pentium 200 processor, 32 Mb memory, 512 Kb cache memory, chip sets, two V24 connectors (up to 48 Kbps), one V35 connector (up to 64 Kbps), one 10 Mbs Ethernet AUI connector and one 10 Mbs Ethernet TP connector. The half size extension board contains the 10/100 Mbs Ethernet TP connector and the 100 Mbs SAS FDDI SC connector. A row of little LED's on the VTD/8 Optimo main and the extension board indicates the actual status of the boards. The board serial number starts at 6000.
Prerequisites
The installation of a VTD/8 Optimo gateway can be performed on any Windows NT4, Windows 98, Windows 95 or MS-DOS platform. Two free ISA slots, side by side, are essential in order to install both cards. One free IRQ (when installed on a Windows machine), one free I/O address (200, 220, 240, 260, 300, 320, 340 or 360) and a free memory address region (between B000X and DFFFX) are also required.
