VTD/Adular : The Fast Track !
The best for your e-quipment
click image to zoom in Did you ever dream of offering your reliable IT- system as a real-time e-Service to your customers? If you think it would be madness, maybe you should be introduced to Adular !

Many large businesses struggle to get onto the Internet and to start e-business. The most important reason is that they believe they have to re-structure and re-engineer their existing applications. This involves big project teams spending large amounts of time and money developing web code while others eat away their market share.

The result of such re-structuring and re-engineering of applications is often disappointing due to the lack of market feed-back and of fast response to the quick evolving market needs.

Although it's a well-kept secret, life doesn't have to be that difficult for businesses using smoothly running host applications on IBM, Bull or Unix servers.

MMR's VTD/Adular concept allows to create powerful web applications that offer the flexibility to anticipate to the constantly changing market structures. VTD/Adular is a dynamic and scalable interface between the market- and time-driven Web environment and the structured existing IT environment !

VTD/Adular offers a real-time interface between the existing host applications and the new web application, CMS, CRM, ERP or any other front-office application. Adular also supports SSL encryption, Web Services, SOAP, J2EE and .NET implementation !

With Adular nothing is stopping companies from developing powerful web applications in a few weeks using the existing host applications as the foundation.

The missing key in your existing IT chain
click image to zoom in Adular consists of four different modules. Each one of them communicates with the central part of Adular: the Adular Server. Its Service Engine contains all intelligence to interact with the host applications. It is inside this Adular Server that all the necessary information regarding Adular models, procedures, services and sessions is kept. To communicate with a Web server and the client software, both COM/DCOM and CORBA interfaces are provided.

The Adular Administrator lets you manage the different Adular services and sessions. This tool gives you a graphical interface not only for administration, maintenance and monitoring of the Adular services and sessions, but also for managing the different Environment Variables.

In order to connect the Adular Server to the host applications, we use the integrated 32-bit VTD/Amaril emulator technology. It also provides a visual interface during the development of the Adular models.

The Adular Modeler allows you to create Adular models, procedures and screen templates, simply by navigating through the different host screens. The result is a dynamic map of one part of your host application. This map contains the screens (waypoints) and the actions to get to these screens. Adular uses powerful detection rules to recognize these waypoints.

Create flowcharts of your legacy applications
click image to zoom in With the Adular Modeler, the developer quickly creates a graphical model of the host application. The developer navigates through the host application using the built-in terminal emulator. Adular records every step and represents the host application as a series of waypoints and actions, and the relations between them. The Adular model is automatically updated after each step.

For each set of information to be exchanged with the host, the developer creates an Adular procedure. A procedure is a navigation path through the model that enables to automatically operate the host application to exchange the required information.

While recording the host screens and actions, the Adular Modeler has also generated a database of screen templates. A template is a structure that is superimposed over a captured screen. It is composed of template areas, which may contain other template areas, called child template areas. With the Adular Modeler, a screen template can be used to provide access to areas on the screen.

The Web designer performs calls to the procedures with specific parameters, as you will see further on these pages. Adular returns the appropriate result. By calling different Adular procedures, the web application can handle information from different host platforms and applications, and consolidate them in one integrated view.

Just consider Adular procedures as building blocks for your new web applications and you can imagine how easily even your most complex mainframe services can be exploited in the market-driven and fast evolving e-business environment.

Centralized Management
click image to zoom in The road map (= Adular model) of your host application also needs cars and drivers to follow the paths (= Adular procedures). These cars are represented by Adular sessions, where each session is a single connection to the host. A group of sessions is called an Adular service.

The Adular Administrator program allows you to manage all of these Adular services and sessions, to stop or start each one of them seperately or as a group, to add so-called Environment Variables to each session, to view detailed statistics, or to change the Corba settings for your Adular object. Up to 1000 simultaneous sessions can be added to an Adular service.

You can configure the Adular Server to launch a specific group of Adular services automatically at Windows start-up, without someone having to log on to Windows (with Ctrl+Alt+Del). Adular also allows you to view its statistics (counters, sessions status, instances, peak usage and many more) in the Microsoft Windows Performance Monitor.

By calling one of these Adular sessions with a single-line-code inside an ASP or a PHP Web application, a MS-Word or MS-Excel macro, a Visual Basic or C++ executable, the Adular server connects to your legacy application(s) and returns immediately the desired results.

Launching Adular procedures
Because of the standardized output of the Adular procedures, you can easily integrate this data into different programs, i.e. :
  • in a Web application (ASP, PHP, JavaScript, Java Servlet, ...) click image to zoom in
  • in a Microsoft Office program (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS Access, ...)
  • in XML or HTML format
  • in a Visual Basic or C++ executable
  • towards WAP or PALM applications
  • to a file server or ODBC database
  • to a printer or mail server
  • and many more ...
The information can be gathered from several host systems simultaneously. This way, you can modify the legacy data before actually displaying it on the client side, in a customer-friendly format.

Remember the days where your employees needed a whole lot of precious time to search for specific data on the host system ? Where they had to input several pages of data, day after day ? Where you had to manually copy-and-paste legacy data to or from your MS-Office applications ?

With VTD/Adular, your team members are just a mouse-click away from an optimized Cost-Time-Technology mix !

Still not convinced ? Our success story continues ...

Making life easy
Before actually testing the Adular procedures in a Web application, you can run each procedure inside the integrated Adular Debugger tool. This allows you to detect any errors in your model or procedure from within the Adular Modeler.

click image to zoom in The Adular Documentation Generator is a Wizard which allows you to write a complete documentation for the current Adular model. This HTML document includes all actions, waypoints, captured screens, labels, scripting codes and Environment Variables, and strongly facilitates the integration and maintenance of your Adular procedures in the Web applications.

The Adular Code Generator inside the Adular Modeler gives you the opportunity to generate client code directly in VbScript, VbScript V5 classes, Java classes, Basic modules or Basic class modules. Simply by adding this module to your program or by adding a hyperlink towards the generated VbScript code, the Adular procedure is launched with a single mouse click !

We're not finished ! The Adular library contains more than 50 powerful built-in functions to facilitate even more the control and management of the host data. Moreover it allows you to deploy Regular Expressions to easily extract or convert parts of the legacy data.
